More at-home Covid quilting and a picnic or two!

Over the summer our group did not meet at our usual quilting venue due to Covid-19 but we all managed to stay busy in our own way. And, we got together a few times in a public park at an adequately socially distanced way to have a 'picnic'.

Here are a few photos of work completed at home:

Sue's Quilt projects:

Large paper pieced Abstract Elephant quilt!

Twisted Geese quilt top

Waverly quilt for a friend's son

A quilt called Waffles; it has been a
UFO for a long time

Reversible table runner; from Jennifer Sampou's book
Ombre

With leftover Ombre fabric, Sue made this purse, it just
needs it's handles

Faye #1's project:

This wall-hanging has blocks that
represent each province and territory.

From Bev:

Putting together a Patchwork of the Crosses, Lucy Boston
block. I choose to appliqué the paper-pieced POTC
to a background square. I used a template to ensure each
block is entered on its backing.

A mini-quilt I made for Quilt Canada 2020
quilt swap.

Some picnic photos; we were blessed with nice, sunny days to get together while socially distancing!

Celebrating Judy and Cheryl's  Birthdays!

Celebrating Carole, Faye #2 and Bev's July and
August Birthdays!

Stay safe! More photos soon!

Well, summer seems to have arrived and with the (sometimes) better weather we find ourselves outside tending to flowers or the veggie garden or the countless little things that add up to big chores. Unfortunately, that usually means less time for quilting. However, some of our members have been busy starting and finishing new projects! Here's a sample:

From Myrtle:
A lovely black and white baby quilts made from a panel.

Another baby quilt, called Lullaby Land designed by Karen Bialik.

And another baby quilt, Carpenter's Star  -  all the babies should be covered now! And covered very nicely!

From Cheryl:
A children's charity quilt made from leftover fabric from the quilt in the last blog post. Never let it be said that Cheryl is afraid to buy extra fabric 'just in case'!

A charity quilt from a bag of 5 inch squares found in a donation bag of fabric (to our guild)

Another charity quilt made from leftover squares from a block of the month project at our quilt guild; none of the squares were the same size so a lot of trimming was needed and then there were no points left! (but it wasn't a pointless endeavour!)

A child's quilt for charity.

A charity wheelchair quilt made from 5 inch squares gifted by another guild member. There were some really fancy squares as well but they really did not go, colour wise, with the rest of the squares so perhaps they can be used later. So then after putting those squares aside, Cheryl didn't have enough squares and had to spend time finding or making more!

A note from Paula:

Not much quilting but lots of sewing.
The hospital gowns ended up with short sleeves and snaps rather than ties. 24 of them using used sheets donated from Holiday Inn. It was a request from Canada Sews for long term care patients.

The other pic shows a couple of scrub caps and a headband made for donation also.
On a positive note, my flat finished seams are pretty good😊

In June, quite a few of us were able to get together in a local park for a socially-distanced picnic. It was great to see everyone! Our last meeting was early in March so this was a happy day.

We missing celebrating Judy and Jane's March birthdays so Carole picked up a cake for the picnic; such fun!

I haven't heard from a few of the girls so I'm going to save my photos for the next post. I hope everyone is keeping safe, keeping apart, wearing a mask and protecting yourself and your loved ones!

Quilting from home during Covid-19

Our group has not physically met since the beginning of March but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t been busy working at home. I asked my Stitchin’ Sisters to send me photos and a description of what they have been working on at home.

Carole sent these photos

A cute panel made into a lovely child's quilt; she is donating it to our guild’s charity quilt group.

Butterfly mug rugs for a friend:

Bibs and burp clothes for a special little boy.

A cross back apron.

A Lori Holt cross stitch work-in-progress from the Fat Quarter Shop

From Amazon by June Taylor quilt as you go, handles have to be out on, fabric from Hawaii.

A work-in-progress log cabin quilt

From Paula, I received the following:

Very useful face masks.

These are the headbands she is making for Canada Sews -Alberta.

I asked Paula about this project and this what she said:

I came across this Facebook group  Canada Sews- Alberta

I joined the group, just recently, and started making headbands, mostly because I had lots of the right size elastic for those.  Below is the blurb from the "About" page. Lots of information and seems to be a well organized page. The files page has patterns, and lists of requests.
I just felt this was something I could do to help with the pandemic effort,

Canada Sews is a grassroots movement of Canadian sewers supporting our front-line workers during the COVID 19 pandemic. We do so by sewing much-needed items such as fabric face masks*, scrub caps, and ear-saving headbands, upon request. From coast to coast, our community of volunteers is doing what they can to support and thank those saving lives.
You have landed on the Canada Sews - Albert regional page, serving Edmonton and area, Central Alberta and area, and Calgary.
Chapters exist to respect the need to minimize physical contact, efficiently move supplies and finished items, and support our goal to distribute items within the region they were made. For a complete list of chapters and their respective Facebook groups, please visit canadasews.ca/regions. In addition to becoming a member of the national, Canada Sews Facebook group, we encourage you to join the Facebook group that is closest to you.

From Faye2:
Faye worked on some of her UFOs. The Victoria hanging flower baskets took over 3 years!

The mauve floral panel still needs binding.

Window framed blue/purple flowers just one year old (a very young UFO!)

Cheryl has been working on the following:

Quilting room before vacation, all nice and neat

Quilting room after all the sewing below!

Bitsy Boxes

Quilt for grandchild’s first child

A charity quilt from 2 1/2 inch squares

Another charity quilt from 2 1/2 inch squares!

Jane has been busy on the following:

She completed the binding on these 3 UFOs

Made 4 pillowcases

Made 3 sets of seasonal placemats

Completed a child's quilt for charity

Made bow ties for Morley and his dog friends

Completed 2 batik totes

Made another child's quilt for charity!

And completed a puzzle Cheryl loaned her

I have done a few things:

I started and finished these counted cross stitch book marks I bought in NZ last year.

I made 2 sets of 4 placemats each for my two sons.

I made quite a few masks, some with folds

And some fitted like these from the Craft Quilter website.

And I made a larger counted cross stitch from Lori Holt pattern using Oatmeal coloured aida cloth

And I put the binding on 2 quilts - UFO's - Spinning Stars and Lori Holt Farm Girl Vintage

I hope you've enjoyed looking at our projects; stay safe!
