April Quilting

After a few mild winter (snow-wise), we need precipitation badly; unfortunately April didn't bring the showers we need for our May flowers. It has been a pretty good spring with some a few very warm days and few very cool days but I know the warm weather is but a month or so away. 

This first photo is of a block Judy was putting together for the charity group of the large guild we belong to - I think it's called a 10 minute block. It is very quick and very effective. 

We had two birthdays to celebrate - both Judy and Jane! Happy Birthday ladies! I love when it's 'cake time'!

This is the first two rows of Myrtle #2's lovely quilt - it's coming together very nicely!

This is Cheryl's quilt that she made at a workshop in our large guild - it's one of the variations of Turning Twenty - beautiful!

This is a close up of the Jennie Doan, Missouri Star Company, quilt we made for a lovely friend who left our group awhile ago. The 30's fabric was from a layer cake that Carmen had on hand and we each made on block. Carmen also quilted the quilt - super job Carmen!

These are my charity blocks - they make nice big blocks. 

This quilt is called Alphabet row and it was quilted for me by Carmen - the quilting has lions, elephants, zebras, etc - it is for my great niece Abigail. 

Here's Myrtle working away at her BOM project - I have a feeling she won't be signing up for any BOMs. It will be beautiful when completed!

And she has completed a project for Christmas! That's thinking ahead. This lovely wall hanging has mini lights set into the middle panel - lovely!

The first 2 rows of a baby quilt Carole is making - the pattern is called Bunny Hugs and you can get your copy HERE from the Quilt Patch in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. 

This is a needle keeper I made from a pattern by Sue Spargo. I still have a few touches to finish it - such as the striped binding - but I'm enjoying learning some new stitches. 

This is block four of the Pat Sloan Secret Garden BOM program. So far so good!

This brown beauty is Judy's - it's just back from being quilted by Carmen - great job Judy (and Carmen)!

And here is the baby quilt completed - cute little bunnies peeking over the edge of the quilt - this will be a much loved quilt!

Pat Sloan has an amazing sampler that started in mid-February called the Splendid Sampler - she releases two blocks a week for a year! These are a few of my blocks; I'm loving the diversity of blocks from simple piecing to paper piecing to embroidery - they are gorgeous! Check it out for yourself at SPLENDID SAMPLER 2016

You can start the sampler at any time as the blocks are all on the website as they are released - but they won't be there forever, so hurry!

In March a few of us took a class put on by our local guild and we made a great tote/purse. I don't know what to call it - it's a little big for a purse but it still functions as a purse, but it looks like a tote, so I'm calling it a tote/purse. The pattern was designed by a member of our guild, Brenda, and it would be very easy to customize with respect to number of pockets, size of pockets, etc.  I plan to make another, smaller one that I will definitely call a purse!

Carole and I brought our bags to quilting to show everyone and two quilters, Judy and Jane, had signed up for the class but couldn't attend in the end as the date needed to be changed so we helped them with their totes/purses!
