Back to Quilting!

 Our group met last Tuesday, January 14th and it was nice to get back together after a month off. I took a few photos of what everyone was working on:

BJ participated in a Mystery Quilt at Earthly Goods and made this beautiful quilt, 'Undercover in Houston VI' by Debbie Caffrey.

She said it was fun to do and we all think it's beautiful! I don't know how she is going to quilt it but we'll ask her to see it again when it is completed. Then she started to work on (another!) baby quilt: 'Wee Chevron' out of flannel.

 

Carmen was working on 'Tone it Down', the first American Patchwork and Quilting Quilt-a-long and it is looking gorgeous! It is featured in the February 2014 issue.

The February issue may still be on the newsstands or you can order a digital copy at American Patchwork and Quilting February 2014   You can also check out Lissa Alexander at Lissa Alexander as she was very involved in the planning of this quilt-a-long. Carmen said she is having fun with these blocks.


Cheryl was working on 'Flight Plan', a pattern from American Patchwork and Quilting, December 2013.

She is using batiks in her version and it is looking beautiful. It makes me want to pull out my batiks and get going!

Judy was working on 'Granny's Jam' lap quilt from '11 Laps from Fat Quarters' and I only managed to take a photo of her hand - sorry Judy!

Myrtle and Faye #2 were both working on 'Golds Got the Blues', kits that they purchased at the quilt show in Leduc. The pattern is from Pine Tree Country Quilts and the colours are beautiful!

I didn't get a photo of Carole or Jane as they both had machine troubles and took a trip to Edmonton to get their machines looked at - next time I'll catch up with them!

I was working on 'Microwave Bowl Pot Holders'; I found that tutorial on the blog, 'Seams Happy' and they are so cute!

You can find the tutorial at Seams Happy Microwave Bowl Pot Holder I think they are adorable! Louise made some over Christmas and used the pattern size of 10" squares and also made two larger ones using 11.5" squares and 13" squares.

I also showed the girls one of the latest tutorials from Missouri Star Quilt Company - the 'Disappearing Pinwheel'! I love it! So simple, so easy, and so beautiful!

You start with 10" squares, sew around all four sides, cut on both diagonals, press to the darker side, resew the sets of half-square triangles into a pinwheel, cut again in 9 equal pieces, turn, resew and viola! You have 2 different end versions (and probably more) as you can see in the last photo above. I think I'm going to have fun with this one! We have two members 'down south', Louise and Faye #1; I'm sure they are having a great time being 'snow birds'. And we'll see Ruth on our next Thursday quilt day.
